Where to eat.

Café Savoy, Prague

After an overnight train journey, Prague greeted us with a morning peak and rainy weather. Wasting no time we went to the hotel and then, with the acquired map, started our first walk through the streets of the Czech capital. I was looking for a place for a romantic breakfast in advance. The blog Taste of Prague helped us to find a place where we decided to go, one coffee shop drew my attention. On the way we're passing nice, still closed shops which you do not encounter often in Warsaw - haberdashery, antiques. I was charmed by one of the streets, all built with high houses, each in a different color.

It started to rain, so we accelerate and soon we are on the spot. Located on the corner of an inviting house and kept in old-fashioned style cafe gives the impression of a quiet, romantic place - just like I love.

We're going inside, it's completely different than I expected. It's crowded and terribly noisy - clanging dishes, talking clients. While we're waiting until someone approaches us, we have a moment to look at the interior. The cafe is large, and the mirrors hanging on the walls make it seem to be even more specious. In front of the entrance is a counter, where meals are prepared, and nearby - fresh bread and a refrigerator with a deliciously-looking cakes. On the left side are stairs leading to a balcony with few tables. I fift my head and notice a enormous ceiling, looking like an ancient palace - colored in beautiful pattern, and the two crystal chandeliers. Downstairs are two lounges, in the main one waiters pass us every moment, and other hidden little behind. It's calmer there, on the walls of the wooden shelf stand bottles of wine.

Immediately comes to us maitre, the stuff is elegantly dressed. We booked a table, otherwise we wouldn't be able to stay here, the place is very popular. We're sitting by the window, it's quite tight, there is no intimacy, which I was hoping. In the menu there are breakfasts, eggs in several ways and small hot dishes. We're choosing continental and Savoy breakfast, with coffee and chocolate. Tea lovers will be delighted of the amount and variety of flavors offered in the cafe

After a few moments, we look forward to have our meal, which barely fit on the round table. Soft-boiled egg is cooked perfectly, served with crispy toasts and butter. I ate fresh bread and bun with cherry and apricot jams - delicious! I prefer sweet breakfasts, but I have to admit that Prague ham is very tasty and extremely delicate. Savoy breakfast also included nut marble cake. The piece is huge, and I'm already full, but I ate the cake with pleasure.

Café Savoy is perfect for breakfast, to have the energy for a day of sightseeing. On the menu are also available dinners, we didn't try them, but if they are just as tasty as our sets, it's worth a try! Delicious food and elegant interior encourage me to visit again. The place is quite loud and is probably the only disadvantage.

Prague, Czech Republic

Although  on the blog we were supposed to talk about Warsaw's restaurants, we thought it's worthwhile to create a forum in which we will describe our culinary travels. By going to a new city we don't know any places where we can eat or where not, to avoid disappointment. That's why we want to show you places we visited (of course, with descriptions of delicious food and many pictures) and recommend or dissuade in order to fill your travels with exquisite taste.
I've been in Prague recently with my boyfriend for a few days for a romantic getaway. We wanted to spend some time together, see the main sights and, of course, try the local cuisine. The Czech capital is surprising us at every step with its beauty - colorful houses, narrow streets and many historical sites that are worth to see. Most of the restaurants we've chosen earlier - they were recommended on tourist websites and Czech blogs. Several places were completely random, we encountered them during long walks. They captivated us and we couldn't resist not to try anything. We tried to choose a typical Czech dishes, to taste the local cuisine. In Prague you have to try smažený sýr, Czech dumplings and meat served with lots of sauce. Do not forget about Czech beer with lunch or dinner! Beer stánku, which is very common in Czech, is delivered to the pub a few hours after manufacture, straight from the brewery. It tastes a little different, in my opinion better than with a pourer. You will find them in almost every pub, look for big signs on the boards in front of the entrance.

Prague is of course not only delicious food, but plenty of things to see. The city was not destroyed during the war, so while each walk we could enjoy the view of multi-colored, well-kept houses. At the beginning we went to Prague must-see - Hradczany.

The complex is situated on a hill, from where we could admire magnificent panorama of the city. You buy one ticket for several attractions, it makes sightseeing easier. Must-see there is the Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral with amazing stained glass windows, built for over 600 years at the behest of Charles IV. We went also to the South Tower of the Cathedral measuring 96.67m. We beat 287 stairs and saw the Zygmunt bell weighing 18 tons, cast in 1549. Tiring climbing paid off - amazing views of the whole city and cathedral roof covered with a grid of small, leaden rhombuses were waiting for us at the top.

Notable is also the Golden Lane with small, colorful houses. Today, full of tourists, was once inhabited by the castle guards, artisans and officials.

Nearby is the Loreta, baroque sacred building, with a beautiful Holy House in the middle of the yard. Inside we found a lot of images and exhibits, religious, with very interesting and clear descriptions. For a little rest we chose one of the parks - Vojanovy sady. The park is inhabited by peacocks, very friendly towards people. Also nearby is the narrowest street in the world, you can go there. The motion is governed by traffic lights for pedestrians. We unfortunately didn't have time to go there. We really regret it because we were so close.
Another place we visited was the Old Town, we went there for a night walk. In every corner you can take beautiful photos that will be a perfect souvenir. We went through the Old Town Square with its many restaurants, but people discouraged us to eat in typical tourist's places.

Then we got lost in the narrow streets with small shops and suddenly came across Charles Bridge, ideal for a romantic walk. The bridge is over 500m in length and it's decorted in  large, stone statues of saints. Unfortunately, the atmosphere is not so fairy tale, as you can read in the guidebooks - the bridge is very popular among tourists, so anytime terribly crowded.

I recommend Prague to all, for a getaway with friends, a romantic weekend with your partner or  to wander the beautiful streets! In next post I'll describe some restaurants we visited in Prague, with the hope that they could be useful to you once you'd need a gastronomic guide through Czech cuisine.

PINI Cafe&Vino

Idziemy przez centrum Warszawy, dochodzimy do Placu Trzech Krzyży, a tam pośród panującego zgiełku znajdujemy miejsce na chwilę odpoczynku - Pini Cafe&Vino.

Wchodzimy do środka i widzimy ladę przywodzącą na myśl sieciówkowe kawiarnie typu Starbucks czy Costa Coffee. Ciasta wyglądają pięknie, mamy do wyboru m.in. sernik udekorowany Snickersem, tort bezowy, tort czekoladowy czy też szarlotkę.

Cafe Vincent

Vincent is a modernly decorated Parisian cafe located in Arkadia shopping mall. The interiors are simple and minimalist. The amount and variety of food goodies makes it difficult for us to take a quick decisions what to order.

You can eat here breakfast, lunch and dessert. There are fresh croissants, macaroons, brioche and sweet buns with stuffing and baked baguettes on display counter. In particular, we try a croissant with chocolate, which won our hearts. We take home one of the crispy baguettes (our favorite - fitness) as well.
If this is for you too much, eat one of the sandwiches - with ham and cheese or mozzarella and tomato. We do not recommend the salads, because dressings are tasteless.
In addition to the food delights we find on offer coffee, tea and fruit smoothies. Classic coffees are average, mediocre. Taste can enrich syrup, for an extra charge. Cocktails disappointed us, they aren’t refreshing but overly sweet. We expected the natural and fresh fruit mixes, and instead we got cold drinks on the basis of syrups with some frozen strawberries.
The cafe is a two-level, or you can sit in the garden. On the ground floor is quite loud - all the time standing queue to the cashier and customers looping up to the plate. A slightly different climate prevails on the second floor. Dim light, simple tables and sofas are unimaginative and are associated with the decor of popular coffee stores like Starbucks. The only positive distinctive accent are hanging on the walls black-and-white photos by Robert Doisneau, French photographer.

We recommend Cafe Vincent for a quick lunch, a cup of coffee with a friend or rest after shopping. Everyone will find something savory and sweet at affordable prices. Try it, you won’t regret it!
